
Martha R. Hernandez, PMHNP, BC
Martha R. Hernandez is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Her baccaulaureate in nursing is from Hunter College-Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City. She received her Master's Degree from Long Island Unversity in 1975. She graduated from the Post-Master's Nurse Practitioner Program at Arizona State University in 1997. She was among the first group of psychiatric nurse practitioners to achieve national certification in the State of Arizona. She has, also, received her Master Psychopharmacologist certification from the Neuroscience Education Institute in 2005.
Martha was born in New York City and moved to Arizona in 1977. She is of Puerto Rican/Dominican descent and is bicultural and bilingual.
Martha has an extensive clinical background in oncology and mental health nursing in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Martha also taught psychiatric/mental health nursing at the university level. Martha has worked to improve mental health services in the community through legislation and volunteerism.
Martha has been in private practice since 1980. Her practice philosophy is holistic and she strives to maintain a practice environment that includes the patient in treatment planning. She has a special interest in bicultural and bilingual treatment issues, women’s health issues ,as well as, the psychiatric impact of terminal and chronic illnesses. Martha specializes in the psychopharmacological treatment of mental health and behavioral health disorders including all mood disorders, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD and attention deficit disorders.
